Since I have less than two weeks to complete the vocal score of Wasteland (it’s a good thing, trust me), it’s gonna be a while till I have time to record something new, but in the meantime, let’s dust off a few gems from the past! “Sound the Call” is a summer camp love song for anyone who was a camper, counselor, student or teacher at the Interlochen Arts Camp. Those were some grand ole times, weren’t they?

I had hoped to have a new song for today, but between Belize, Father’s Day, jet lag, and various social engagements (boo hoo), that hasn’t happened. I guess I’ll just have to gladly double up next week. Nevertheless, I do have something special: a track from The Vinyl Addicts’ debut album Live at Mill Pond, recorded in my parents’ living room just shy of ten years ago. It’s called “See in the Dark.”

Seeing as I’ll be in Belize next Tuesday (damn straight), I figured I’d post my next song a bit early. Today’s tune is a radical departure from what I’ve shared thus far… a rap song called “Kandy” by the duo known as Fat Ferret (myself and the infamous Anna Breslaw). I’m beyond psyched to share the very first demo from Wasteland, a sprawling post-apocalyptic musical I’m writing with Dylan H. Thompson, who also sings on the track. Avarett is a 22-year-old outcast who lives in the deepest, darkest corner of a technologically advanced, but meticulously unemotional underground society. In Act 1, Scene 8, he tells his new friends the story of his life… that of a failed genetic experiment who yearns for his mother’s touch in a society that forbids such things.

Hello, you gorgeous personface! I know you. You follow me for one of two reasons: 1. We are friends in so-called real life. 2. I post only the raddest of Star Wars swag. While both of these reasons are thoroughly legit, there is now a third: I will be posting a new original song (or a new recording of an old song) every Tuesday at 2pm. Yay!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with my work, allow me to clue you in. I play the piano, and while I don’t like to pigeonhole myself, I’m frequently told I sound like a cross between Ben Folds and Alan Menken, a classification I’m way cool with.
